Charcoal water filters are the plastic-free way to delicious, clean tasting water. Simply place the appropriate size in your water, and let the charcoal get to work filtering out impurities and enhancing the taste of your water. The stick of charcoal bonds with the toxins in tap water and absorbs impurities, while also imparting healthy minerals like calcium and magnesium.

Made by artisans, charcoal filters begin as branches of sustainably harvested oak trees and are placed in a kiln and heated until many days later the dense, glass-like material emerges. This process makes them a fantastic eco friendly water filter.

One stick lasts four months and can then be used as a deodorizer for your refrigerator or compost pail, or broken up and used to nourish the soil in your garden. It's the only compostable water filter on the market!

Use & care

We recommend adding tap water in the evening for use the next day. Optimal filtration time for 16 oz of water is one hour. A half gallon pitcher should be filtered for 6 - 8 hours, and 3-5 gallon jugs should be filtered for about 48 hours.

To renew, once per month, boil gently in a shallow pan of water for 5 minutes - allow to dry out for 10 minutes before reusing (20 minutes for the largest water jug size). This will open the exterior pores and allow it to keep absorbing toxins.

We do not recommend using the filter in water with fruit in it because the fruit fragments will clog the pores of the stick. Instead, just add Kishu filtered water to your fruit.

A little flaking may occur, but this is not at all harmful to drink and will not affect the filtering process.

Origin

End of life

One stick lasts four months and can then be used as a deodorizer for your refrigerator or compost pail, or broken up and used to nourish the soil in your garden. When it is mixed with soil in the garden to create bio-char, or used in the bottom of potted plant for drainage.

Kishu never dissolves in the water itself. It may flake tiny particles, but those are safe to drink. It has a rock like consistency but will eventually biodegrade in soil.

The box and label are recyclable, and the clear sleeve is 100% compostable (remove the sticker before composting).
